Dr. Otey was a latecomer to medicine. He knew he wanted to pursue further education after college, but he considered law and business as well. He was eventually drawn to the human aspect of medicine.
“I want to be there for people at critical points in their lives, both heartbreak and joy.”
The active nature of OB/GYN attracted Dr. Otey early on. Delivering babies and performing surgeries energize him. He also enjoys the relationships he forms with his patients.
“I love being there for almost all of a woman’s life, from teenage years to senior adulthood. Or sometimes from their birth until the birth of their children!”
Dr. Otey likes the challenge of changing gynecological needs and concerns as women go through different stages of life. He wants his patients to feel like all their gynecological concerns have been addressed.
When at home with his wife, Caroline, and his 3 children, Dr. Otey can usually be found running, biking, and running some more (up to 50 miles!). He pretends to be a triathlete but does not enjoy swimming. He is active in his church and is recruited by his wife to help in the church nursery on a regular basis.
“The staff at Physicians and surgeons is wonderful. Dr. Otey is a very compassionate and caring physician. He takes his time and listens to his patients. Excellent experience.” – Ana B.
“Dr. Thomas in internal medicine, and Dr. Otey in OBGYN, are two of the best doctors I’ve ever encountered, including living abroad in two different countries. These doctors and staff care about their patients and are committed to their health and well-being.” – Matthew C.
