Dr. Harold “Roy” Thomas, MD, is an internal medicine physician practicing in our Amory office. He joined P&S in 2016.
Dr. Thomas first became interested in medicine while working as a medical tech at the veterinary school at MSU. He was drawn to science and inspired to pursue higher education.
“Then I realized I could combine my love of science with helping people in my community, which led me to medical school.”
Torn between choosing a career in pediatrics or internal medicine, Dr. Thomas pioneered the first combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency at UMMC. However, he eventually chose a position with internal medicine and has primarily seen adults since.
Dr. Thomas enjoys the complexity of adult medicine, analyzing problems and achieving satisfying results. “I also love the friendships I make with my patients, growing our relationship over time and helping them live healthier lives.”
Wellness visits are the backbone of Dr. Thomas’s practice, though he also particularly enjoys diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol management.
When at home with his wife, Sonya, and their children, Dr. Thomas can be found working in his garden, going on trail runs, hiking, and enjoying other outdoor activities.
His longest run to date is 50k, but he could probably be convinced to go longer if he has enough Fig Newtons.
“Dr. Thomas is a great physician, very caring and willing to sit with you and listen. He has always tried to understand my concerns about my health, and actually saved my life. He got me the proper medical help when I experienced cardiac symptoms. I’ve had a few family physicians over the years, but Dr. Thomas is the most caring and considerate I’ve ever met.” – Lee S.
“Dr. Thomas and his staff are wonderful. Dr. Thomas has been my physician since moving to MS 13 years ago. He and his staff have ALWAYS been caring, courteous and professional!” – Pat K.
“Dr. Thomas is a sweetheart! Very professional, kind and listens to your concerns. He is knowledgeable and looks for different treatments if needed. When l had to change doctors due to insurance I did not think I would like Dr Thomas but I love him. Wouldn’t change now!” – Margarette B.
